SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

RECYCLED POLYESTER

Piping Hot’s recycled polyester is as durable as virgin polyester but emits far less greenhouse gases, and conserves more water and energy, making it better for the earth and the ocean.

Utilising 62% less energy, 99% less water and expelling 35% less waste than conventional polyester, recycled polyester is our preferred choice for Piping Hot sherpa, polar fleece, microsuede and poly shell garments and footwear.

Piping Hot uses Textile Exchange’s Global Recycling Standard (GRS) in conjunction with DNA testing to verify the source of post consumer plastic bottles and other recycled materials.

RECYCLED COTTON

Recycled cotton is the lowest impact cotton available, using significantly less water than conventional alternatives.

Piping Hot’s recycled cotton fabric contains a minimum of 50% recycled cotton yarn. By doing this we save more than 1060 litres of water in every recycled cotton garment we make. That’s enough drinking water to satisfy a human’s recommended daily intake for 334 days.

By using recycled cotton Piping Hot also prevents waste from going to landfill. Piping Hot’s recycled cotton is made by collecting discarded and surplus cotton and yarn from the fabric mill. The reclaimed fibres are mechanically chopped into fine, short fibres and spun with Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) sourced cotton to create a yarn.

Piping Hot invests in the Better Cotton Initiative. BCI is the largest cotton sustainability program in the world. BCI Farmers produce cotton in a way that cares for the environment, reducing water use and minimising the negative effects of fertilisers and pesticides.

RECYCLED EVA

Using reclaimed production offcuts saves energy and diverts waste from landfill.

Piping Hot’s EVA sole components use reclaimed production offcuts.

We utilise third party audits following the Global Recycling Standard (GRS) to verify the use of the post-industrial materials that are recycled and made into Piping Hot footwear.

DYES, PRINTS AND INKS

The dyeing and finishing of textiles accounts for 17-20% of all industrial water usage. By reducing dye and wash treatments we can significantly lower our water use in the production process.

Piping Hot’s tie-dye prints are digitally printed. By choosing to digitally print rather than applying a true tie-dye or over-dye process we have saved vast amounts of chemical and water waste.

All Piping Hot garments are OEKO-TEX certified and are free from known harmful chemicals.

TRIMS AND ACCESSORIES

All trims must have a functional purpose in the garment design. Piping Hot want to ensure each garment can be easily recycled and that every trim and accessory subscribes to our water, waste and energy considerations.

All garment trims contain a portion of recycled material. Piping Hot badging is made with 20% recycled rubber. Zips and elastics are made with recycled polyester. All cords and drawstrings are made with 100% recycled materials.

Our back neck labels are affixed to the garment using an eco-adhesive to avoid excess waste and allow for easy garment recycling at end of life.

PACKAGING

Piping Hot swing tags are made from 100% recycled FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper.

Our garment bags are biodegradable.
